Dilmah devised the Real High Tea Challenge to put the 'tea' back in 'high tea'. The Challenge shares an appreciation of real tea, with Culinary and Hospitality Professionals as well as Tea Aficionados around the world through an unique contest. Assessed on criteria that include respect for the authenticity and character of the central element – tea – participants in the Challenge are required to demonstrate their creativity, excellence in brewing, preparation and presentation, a contemporary afternoon tea and the use of sustainable ingredients.
The Challenge made its debut in Sri Lanka in 2007, when in association with the World Association of Chefs' Societies (WACS), Dilmah Tea first challenged Sri Lankan Chefs to understand the complexity and versatility of tea and combine that with their culinary creativity. The Challenge acquired an international dimensions with the inaugural Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge Australia 2011.
