Get ready to put up the best tea-inspired culinary show of your life. Best of luck, everyone!
The Netherlands is home to some of the finest hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes in the world, not to mention, some of the biggest names in the culinary industry. The Dutch are also world famous for their exquisite cuisine, which is shaped by their practice of fishing and farming as well as the countries long and colourful history. Given this impressive backdrop of culinary excellence and the calibre of entrees we saw at the 2013 Dilmah Real High Tea Challenge Netherlands, we are looking forward to a sensational Real tea inspired High Tea experience that will lay down some new parameters as to what is possible with tea made and used with respect.
Sri Lankan tea brand Dilmah has been holding its Real High Tea Challenges since 2007, long before buckets of ice were being passed around. The national challenges take place around the planet, with Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Thailand joining this year for the first time. All that’s required is a contemporary approach to tea presentation. The judges want to see high tea redefined for the 21st century, in a way that shows an understanding of the varying terroirs and tastes. They want to see tea combined with food, preferable dishes made with local ingredients.
This October, the Challenge returns to the Netherlands once more, as we count down to the grand finale of the competition. This year’s winner will join the 2013 winners Joost Van Der Hoven and Rob Rademaker from InterContinental Amstel Amsterdam when they travel down to Sri Lanka to take part in the Global Challenge in May 2015.
